Résumé: | To determine the prevalence and causes of subclinical caprine mastitis, an investigation based on bacteriological diagnosis was carried out on milk samples from 3 dairy herds (A, B and C) respectively constituted of Saanen, Alpine and a local breed,Draa [date not given]. Among 287 samples analysed in the study 98 teats (34 pc) were infected. Coagulase-negative staphylococci were the most frequently isolated (43 pc of total isolated bacteria) followed by Bacillus spp. (27 pc) and Staphylococcus aureus (13 pc). Other bacteria isolated were Pseudomonas spp. (6 pc), Streptococcus spp. and coliforms (5 pc) and Micrococcus spp. (2 pc). No Mycoplasma was recovered. The epidemiological study showed the significant effect of the type of herd husbandry and breed as well as the number and month of lactation. Incidences of infection were 50.7 pc in herd A, 21.4 pc in herd B and 16 pc in herd C. 92 pc of infections occurred in goats between 2 and 5 years of age, with the highest incidence in 4-year-old goats (41 pc). Incidence increased with number of lactations and was highest (44 pc) in the 3rd lactation. With reference to month, incidence was highest (34 pc) in the 5th month of lactation. |
